Chinese New Year - Year Of The Fire Horse 2026

As the Gregorian calendar turns to 2026, the Chinese Zodiac moves from the Year Of The Wood Snake to the Year of the Fire Horse, a perhaps unsurprisingly energetic era of the combined power of the untamed spirits of both Horse and Fire. Beginning on February 17, 2026 until February 5, 2027, this year heralds in action, passion, energy, intensity, power, self-expression, trail blazing and a change in direction at a moments notice. Think UNBRIDLED.

The Fire Horse is a profound spiritual symbol. It is an animal of action and adventure, of independence, a creature of wildness that cannot be contained. Horses have been mankind's companion for millennia - we would not have advanced in industry or agriculture without Horse - but horses will only willingly work with you if they trust you, if you are of open and gentle heart and soul.

SENSITIVITY

Horse, as a totem or power animal, embodies the wild, the free-roaming as well as physical agility, joy and sensitivity. Unseen, Horse's sensitivity is its hidden strength and at the heart of everything Horse is. This is a good cornerstones as to how we can approach our shamanic journeying and meditations - with courage, humility, open mindedness and a loving heart.

PRACTICES

Here are three of my suggestions for spiritual practices in the Year Of The Fire Horse.

Elemental Meditation

Focus on the Fire Element through candle gazing or flame gazing in outdoor fire ceremonies. First ground yourself by visualising your feet are as solid and as sure footed as a horseshoe.

Nature Trots

Embody the freedom of Horse with gentle walks, hikes or - if you're fortunate enough to be able to have access - ride a horse. Have an awareness of your outdoor surroundings - imagine your eyes are similar to those of Horse, and encourage yourself to have a greater awareness of your peripheral vision too, those fleeting things you see in the corner of your eye.

Totem Animal Work

Working with totem animals for longer periods of time brings so much personal reward. Ask for Horse to accompany you on your meditations while you journey through 2026. Make a note of the insights and feelings that arise when you walk together.

PHYSICAL VULNERABILITIES

Horse is a mighty animal filled with grace - strong, powerful, energetic, free spirited, beautiful - but like all animals, Horse has its vulnerabilities. And if these are not tended to - or acknowledged, protected or understood as they should be - can have rather challenging consequences. The legs of Horse are filled with nerve receptors and are just about as sensitive at its nature. Horses are incredibly sensitive to touch - touch, ofcourse, is the communicator in energy fields - and so when working with Horse, allow yourself to not only accept your own vulnerabilities but strengthen them. This is a step on the path to empowerment, and you will need personal power to embody the energy of Fire Horse in 2026.
