Medicine Bag | Loose Smudge and Saining Herbs

£7.50Price

This organic loose smudge and saining herb mix was commissioned by a customer, a shamanic practitioner, Reiki teacher and holistic therapist of long standing reputation and experience. She was undertaking a pilgrimage to some of Scotland's and Ireland's sacred sites and she wanted to take herbs that fully reflected the sacredness of the sites she was visiting, and so she asked me to create a mix that she could leave as an offering at every site.

She felt this mix was so powerful that she wanted it to be available for anyone doing this work, and she kindly gave permission for this mix to be available in my online apothecary. I called it Medicine Bag as she took it with her in her mála naofa or 'sacred bundle', the Irish Celtic name for a crane bag, a druid, healer or shaman's medicine bag.

It contains 14 different herbs and can be used when you're just not sure what a situation calls for. It is a gently powerful 'all rounder' and a must-have for your own crane bag.

Organically and shamanically grown in my dedicated medicine gardens in Scotland. Hand harvested with respect for the land, prepared with love and care, blessed in dedicated ceremony and with reverence for the Earth - and for you.

Both the Standard Tin and the Pinch Pot are designed to be carried in a pocket or bag to have handy for when you're out and about. They are tin and have screw on lids to reduce spillage or waste and to limit light exposure to ensure long lasting potency. They are practical - this was important to me for these mixes; craft and magick are practical. Little glass vials of herbs are lovely (and I stock these too) but they are not practical for carrying with you for outdoor offerings, saining, blessing and communing with The Land. The Pinch Pot is an ideal size to keep in a purse, to have it on hand wherever you go. And it is very handy to have these mixes on you - you never know when you'll get the calling that an area of land or a plant desperately needs a loving offering.**

The Secret Acorn is perfect as a sacred travelling vessel for this purpose and a beautiful adornment to wear. Each comes with a pinch pot of your choice of herbal mix.

  • This organic herbal mix can be used as smudge for saining (Scottish word for blessing, consecrating or protecting), using the smoke to dedicate and protect ritual tools, spaces, land, homes and people.

    SMUDGING OR SAINING USING SMOKE

Sprinkle a little over a lit charcoal disc that is in a heatproof container and on a stable heatproof surface away from soft furnishings, flammables, animals and children. Use in a well ventilated space, never leave the smoking herbs and disc unsupervised, always wait until burning is complete and that the charcoal disc has cooled before disposal.

To smudge or sain a space, gently waft the smoke around the area with your intention for cleansing, blessing, protecting or dedicating. A feather is most commonly used for this but it can be done by gently moving the smoke with your hand.

To smudge or sain sacred tools - crystals, wands, rattles, drums, tarot decks, etc - pass them through the smoke with your intention.

    AS AN OFFERING

VOLVA Loose Smudge Herbal Mixes can also be used as offerings to the Earth, the Green World, the Heavens, the Stones, the Good People, the Waters, the Directions, the Elements, the Skies, the Sun God and the Moon Goddess, and as a gift to your altar and in any other sacred practice, ritual or ceremony that you are performing with a loving heart.

    GIFTING THE GREEN WORLD

VOLVA mixes can also be used as an exchange and offering when picking flowers or havesting herbs aligned with the medicine of the specific mix - use a pinch and sprinkle a little with your loving intention.

    HONOURING THE SACRED SITES

You can read more about my customer's pilgrimages at Linda's Story, where she took Trick Or Truth Flower Essence, which blessed - and was blessed by - the Hill Of Tara and Lia Fáil (the Stone of Fál also known as the Stone Of Destiny, where the kings of Ireland were coronated up to 500AD).
